The history of ice cream
A lot was written about the history of ice cream however this product doesn't play an important role in the life of people. Besides scientific articles and investigations, there are so many myths and legends about the invention of ice.
They say that Nero was enjoying something alike ice cream in the first century a.c. Marco Polo brought the first recipe of ice cream to Europe from China in 12th century.
Of course the ancient types of ice cream can't be really called ice creams as it was the frozen juice. It was rather difficult to get the piece of snow in the sunny Greece or Spain. So, the dessert that is available for everybody nowadays was available only for kings at that time.
In 1600s people started to add diary products to the ice cream as well as the first builders. The cook of the English king Carl I turned the recipe of the ice cream into the benefit of the court. And according to different kinds of legends the king either paid the cook to keep silence or scared him to death. Soon the king was killed and the cook received the freedom to talk and to share the methods of cooking ice cream and these methods spread quickly all over Europe.
The cafes that offered to eat this tasty product appeared one by one all over Europe. But still ice cream was the product available only to rich people. Several new recipes of ice cream appeared in the French book "L'Art de Faire des Glaces" (The art of making ice cream). And these secrets were later taken to the USA.
It is commonly known that Jefferson (the president of the USA) had his own recipe of making the vanilla ice cream. And George Washington paid nearly 200 dollars (it was a lot at that time) for the original and specific recipe of ice cream.
The Madison's served ice creams during balls and it was the sign of prestige and luxury. Ice cream was the rare dessert as it needed two big plates of ice and salt and it was necessary to shake it more than 40 minutes.
